Serving Military Families In CT & MA

Since September 11, 2001, more than two million service members have deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. The duration and the frequency of these deployments are unprecedented since the establishment of America’s all-volunteer force in 1973. With this increased exposure to combat stress, there has been a growing number of service members with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). The September 2010 Medical Surveillance Report cites service members have self-reported PTSD symptoms 9 percent of the time and depression symptoms more than 27 percent when asked 90-180 days post-deployment. Additionally, more than 19 percent of service members returning from combat reported potentially experiencing TBI during deployment.
